Dance”

LVSA
is offering a unique combination of classes this
summer
to allow students the opportunity to try a
variety
of dance techniques and styles in a fun and
welcoming
environment.
Dance
Program Director -- Jill K. Cookingham
Dance
staff clinician at the Olympic Training Center for the Junior Olympic
National Team. Students have gone on to professional careers in
dance and received college scholarships. Professional jazz and contemporary
dancer. Mentored in classical ballet by Madame Gabriela Darvash
(featured in The Art of Teaching Ballet, Ten Twentieth Century Masters).
Pre-professional program to start in the fall.
“Just
as a musician needs to understand his instrument and use it skillfully
to achieve artistic goals, so a dancer needs to develop and use
their body as a future instrument of their expression.”
Madame
Gabriela Darvash
Class
Descriptions:
Creative
Movement (Ages 4 to 6): A
class that utilizes a child's creativity while learning coordination
skills and developing a love of movement.
Ballet:
Ballet is the foundation
of all dance technique. Ballet classes at LVSA will focus on the
students learning anatomically correct placement and technique as
well as musicality and artistry through movement.
Jazz
Dance: A technically based
style consisting of ballet and modern techniques with syncopated
isolations to popular music.
Street
Jazz: The technique of jazz
dance with the style and funk of hip hop.
Hip
Hop: Originated from the
streets, no pointed toes, just a lot of attitude.
Modern
& Contemporary: Has its
roots in world dance and has developed into a new art form allowing
the dancer more freedom of expression. Examples: Alvin Ailey and
Mia Michaels of “So You Think You Can Dance”.
Tap:
Technique built on rhythm
and musicality with various movement patterns.
Theatre
Dance: Combinations each
week will explore a broad range of Broadway shows from swing to
country to rock.
Leaps,
Jumps and Turns : Class
focuses on the dance skills required for gymnastics, cheer and dance
teams.
At
LVSA, Dance is for Everyone!
